Riverside Fashions Case
The Riverside Fashions Case describes
an apparel manufacturer that is in trouble. It describes the
processes it uses to produce apparel, and how the process results in
inefficiencies and waste. It describes the large work-in-process
in the plant, the large finish goods inventories, as well as quality
problems and worker injuries. It is written in a conversational
style through the eyes of a consultant (like the character of "Jonah"
in The Goal). The case is based on a real plant.
The case is designed to simply set up the plants problems, not solve
them. The "solution" to implement lean manufacturing,
and in particular cellular production in the form of bucket brigade cells is left
for class discusion.
