Homework 1 (Due to Sebastian on 10/12): The Time Use of the Unemployed

Description

Link to ATUS Data

Code to Generate Time Use Categories as Used in Aguiar, Hurst and Karabarbounis (2011)

read me file to use the data

format_09 (the code that creates the categories for the 2009 data)

format_10 (the code that creates the categories for the 2010 data)

Data files needed to run format_09: atusact_2009.dta, atuscps_2009.dta, atusresp_2009.dta, atusrost_2009.dta, atuswho_2009.dta

Data files needed to run format_10: atusact_2010.dta, atuscps_2010.dta, atusresp_2010.dta, atusrost_2010.dta, atuswho_2010.dta

09_subset.dta file (which is produced from running format_09)

10_subset.dta file (which is produced from running format_10)

*Note - you need to put all the files in the same directories (and change the directories to correspond) to run the files.

* Note - you may have to modify these files for this homework. These were the files we used to make our "Time Use During Recession" files. As a result, you may need to merge in occupation on last job or unemployment duration using additional data (likely from the atuscps file). You will have to read the codebooks to make these modifications to the files on your own.
