Influence and educate current and future leaders. This is a core tenet of our mission at Booth.

Our faculty’s research and thought leadership influences businesses, governments, and leaders around the globe. Our 54,000 alumni hold leadership positions at successful companies and innovative new ventures in more than 120 countries.

In order to educate future generations of world-changing leaders, we designed a leadership curriculum that gives students the insight and action skills they will need to make better decisions and move people and organizations to success. We call this “The Chicago Approach to leadership.” Experimentation is a critical part of this approach—students explore new leadership behaviors and strategies, collect data from those experiments and interactions with people in the workplace, reflect on the data, and share what they learn to get feedback.

The Chicago Approach to leadership provides a powerful, enduring framework for continuing to learn, grow, and succeed as a leader throughout your career.

“The Chicago Approach to leadership is grounded in the idea that leaders need more than knowledge—that they need action skills to achieve their goals and insight skills to learn from their successes and failures. The idea is that leaders can take control of their own professional development and work within the feedback loop of taking action and gaining insight for the duration of their career.”
— Harry L. Davis, Roger L. and Rachel M. Goetz Distinguished Service Professor of Creative Management

Leadership in the Classroom

LEAD

Ahead of its time, LEAD was one of the first core experiential leadership development programs to be offered by a top graduate business school. Now offered across all our MBA programs, LEAD helps students build lifelong connections and gain leadership skills to enhance their interpersonal effectiveness.

Leadership Development for Executives

Open-enrollment opportunities in Booth’s Executive Education leadership courses offer vital insights from the same renowned faculty who teach in Booth’s MBA programs. Participants gain a multifaceted approach based on human and social capital, at the school where these concepts were pioneered.

New Suite of Leadership Courses

In addition to the experience-based Lab courses offered at Booth, students can now choose to go deeper with a suite of courses that focus on personal development, learning from experience and working with professional coaches and facilitators within a supportive learning community.

“In an ambiguous situation, where there cannot be complete information, that is when leadership will matter. Your ability to come into an uncertain time and an uncertain future and bring about clarity is key.”
— Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, ’97, speaking to Booth students in Fall 2018

Harry L. Davis Center for Leadership

Named in honor of renowned leadership professor Harry L. Davis, Booth’s leadership research center serves as an incubator for generating new insights about leadership that impact education, practice, and discovery for future generations of students. The center helps foster Booth’s culture of curiosity and continual discovery for future generations of leaders through a deep commitment to collaboration and experimentation. The center also offers programming for alumni to learn, grow, share, and increase their impact as leaders.
