Rimmy E. Tomy
My research primarily relates to regulation and enforcement in the financial sector. Because of the systemic importance of financial institutions to the broader economy, this sector is highly regulated, making enforcement issues of first-order importance. I study how regulators' disclosure of enforcement actions and banks' compliance and internal audit systems can influence the enforcement of financial regulation. I also study financial sector enforcement and credit access in developing countries where formal market institutions such as courts, auditing, and financial-reporting systems function poorly.
My work has been published in top journals such as the Journal of Accounting and Economics, The Review of Financial Studies, and the Journal of Accounting Research.
I earned my Ph.D. from the Stanford Graduate School of Business. I hold an M.S. in Business Administration from the University of Colorado at Boulder and a B.Sc. in Physics from St. Stephen’s College, University of Delhi. I previously worked at Ernst & Young LLP and McKinsey & Company.m St. Stephen’s College, University of Delhi. Professor Tomy has previous experience working at Ernst & Young LLP and McKinsey & Company.
